Can you be allergic to mascara?

I have had my mascara for quite some time,

it's probably time to replace it, but constantly,

no matter if it's new or old, when I barely use

some on my bottom lashes, I start to get

little red spots on the skin under the lash.

It never happens when I use it on the top lashes,

so could it just be I'm allergic to the brand.

I use Great Lash Mascara, the one

in the pink and green tube. Can you be allergic to mascara?
you can pretty much be allergic to anything, or it could be that its old, buy a new tube test it and then return it if you think you are, or you could ask your doc, but i would suggest o stop using it :)Can you be allergic to mascara?
Mascara, eye shadows, eyeliners, eyebrow pencils - all have ingredients to which you could be allergic. One could be allergic to makeup applicators and brushes. It is possible to be allergic to eye drops that you may be using or to the commercially available make-up removers and lid scrubs. Even ingredients used in nail enhancements / make-up (overlay, sculptures etc) can cause eyelid dermatitis when you touch the eyes. You could be allergic to nickel found in house keys or car keys. When you touch the eyes, it can transfer to eyelids and cause dermatitis.

Contact allergic dermatitis of the eyelid will present as eyelid puffiness and parchment-like wrinkling of skin. Itching and redness in the involved area is possible. Allergic eyelid dermatitis may be mistaken for blepharitis. The treatment here is removing contact with the allergen, therefore blepharitis treatment will not work. Since there are so many ingredients inside the cosmetics to which you could be allergic, we recommend discontinuing all eye and nail make-up, getting allergy testing and then to resume eye and nail make-up, one at a time. If the allergy testing reveals reaction to some ingredient, then you cannot use that make-up product. As a temporary measure, a steroid ointment like Tobradex may help to provide relief from symptoms. Long term steroid use on the delicate eyelid skin may result in skin atrophy, skin discoloration or skin telangiectatic vessels. In a recent report, Tacrolimus ointment 0.03% (available a Protopic) was used twice daily on eyelid skin of patients with atopic dermatitis with good results (Am J Ophthalmol. 2003;135:297-302). Since Tacrolimus is a non-steroidal macrolide immunomodulator, it does not cause steroid-related skin changes.
yea my mama use mascara and it use to burn and itch she was allergic to it. yes you can be allergic to it. try a mascara that it is in a white tube its almay. you can buy it at wal mart go to the makeup section. then go to the almay section and look at the mascaras and buy the one with the white tube. it works great on her it doesn't itch or burn anymore. you should try that. if that don't work try clear mascara :D i hope that i helped
yes you can be allergic to it. i use covergirl's lash blast the orange one. before my eyes never itches whenever i have mascara on, but for the past week, it's been itchy. my doctor suggested that they probably changed the ingredients, or im just allergic to it. i told her that i've been using it for about a year, i think, and this is the only time that i had a reaction.
Yes you can mascara tends to irritate my eyes to. I would switch to an all-natural mascara cuz chances are if you switch to another highly publicized you'll have the same problem!

GOOD LUCK!!

PS it might not be the mascara check for patterns in your makeup etc! Oh ya and if it turns out to be the mascara DO NOT just switch brands! All mascaras (with the exception of organic) are pretty much the same thing different tube!

Check out this all-natural mascara!:

More than likely you probably are allergic try switching brands if that doesn't work its probably the mascara itself in witch case you probably should not wear any.
It's possible for you to be allergic to anything. I would try a different mascara, possibly one that is hypoallergenic.
That's my favorite mascara, but I've never had anything like that happen to me.. Just don't use it because you probably are allergic to it.
try a different brand cause i know the one your using is water proof that may be upsetting your eyes. if it still happens tho you may want to consider using eyeliner instead
Your suppose to replace your mascarea every 6 months at the least. And never let any one else use it. Maybe your cheeks are more sensitive.
yes it is possible...
